The new Superman casting has debunked one rumor about the movie, but there’s plenty more waiting in the wings.

Zack Snyder’s Superman movie has found its Lois Lane, despite rumors from early last month which suggested that she wouldn’t be appearing in the film at all. What’s more, the chances that Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen – who is apparently Snyder’s first pick for the evil General Zod – will appear in the movie, are looking up.

Enchanted star Amy Adams will star alongside Henry Cavill as Superman’s main squeeze, Lois Lane. In a statement, Snyder called Adams one of the most versatile film actors in Hollywood today, and said that she had all the qualities to play the smart, funny, and ambitious Daily Planet reporter. Adams has also appeared in movies like The Fighter and Doubt, and episodes of TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Office, and rather appropriately, Smallville.

Mortensen, on the other hand, isn’t officially attached to the movie – he’s not even in talks yet – but one of the main obstacles that would have stood in his way if he was interested has now been removed. Mortensen was in talks for Universal’s upcoming Snow White movie, but these talks apparently fell apart after the actor wanted more money than the studio was willing to pay. Had Mortensen appeared in the movie, it would have made it difficult for him to appear in Superman, but now that he’s walked away, he’s free to be a maniacal Kryptonian if he was so inclined.
