Yesterday we reported that it looked like The Witcher would drop around Dec. 17. However, now that we have the Netflix show’s first full trailer, we’ve got an official release date: Dec. 20.
This first full trailer shows us plenty of new content, especially in the form of Henry Cavill’s Geralt slicing down foes with his sword. There’s also a lot more story building revealed to folks who have not read the books, including the fact that Geralt, the witcher himself, is a magical “mutant” who wanders the land killing monsters. We likewise get to see Geralt use Aard sign to fight, in addition to a few eye color changes and other transformations. It’s even more clear that Netflix is going all-out in an attempt to make this its Game of Thrones, with plenty of chances for blood, sex, and nudity, including Cavill bare as the day he was born in a tub.
The rest of the main cast of The Witcher is composed of Anya Chalotra (The ABC Murders, Wanderlust) as Yennefer and Freya Allan (The War of the Worlds, Into The Badlands) as Ciri, all of whom make an appearance here. It’s definitely a lot more revealing on the whole than the previous teaser we saw and, more importantly, finally gives us the Dec. 20 release date.
