Thief Introduces The Queen of the Beggars

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

The Queen of the Beggars has seen it all – but now she sees something new.

The new Thief: Stories From the City trailer gets points for at least “feeling” like Thief, which I know is a very subjective and ill-defined term. But the stylized, sepia-toned look at the City and its denizens echoes the cutscenes for which the first two Thief games are famed; it’s a vibe, which isn’t any better than a feeling, but this is what we’ve got to work with.

At the same time, those inclined to look at it with more of a jaundiced eye – and for the record, I’m doing my best to stay open-minded – could be excused for seeing yet more evidence of Dishonored DNA. The Queen of the Beggars could easily pass for Granny Rags and her rumored ability to see through the eyes of rats probably has a familiar ring to it, too.

So, some good, some iffy, but probably the most promising thing about the game that I’ve seen so far. Optimism might be a bit premature, but it’s never too soon to hope. Thief comes out on February 25 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC.
