Scantily clad models, robots fighting dinosaurs, the robot Gangnam style, and giant robot women await at Shinjuku’s Robot Restaurant.
If you’re ever in Tokyo, looking for that real “only-in-Japan” unique experience, you may want to get down to the robot restaurant. Tucked away into the side streets of Shinjuku, this little oddity is one of those things you just have to see to believe. Scantily clad models, robots fighting dinosaurs, and giant dancing robot women are just some of the things you can expect to see.
I visited the restaurant with a couple of friends the other day, and documented my experience for the world to see. For 5,000 yen (around $50 USD) per person, we were treated to dinner and a show. The dinner was fairly mediocre, but the highlight, the show, was split up into several amazing segments.
For whatever reason, it started with pole-dancing girls, dancing on robotic moving platforms. Then, we had robots fighting dinosaurs. Then, we had robot dancing with giant robot women, featuring a robot version of “Ganganam Style”. Finally, we had a huge robot tank come out and fight a robot bomber plane. There was also a lot of flashing neon lights.
You’ll have to watch the video and check out the pictures to really get a feel for the restaurant, but in my own words, it was incredibly cheesy, over-the-top, sexy, robotic fun. I don’t know who had the idea to make such a restaurant, but it’s one of the best ideas anyone has had in a long time.
If you’re interested, check out the restaurant’s official website (which also has an English version). Bookings are essential, particularly on weekends.
