Uncharted 4 Will Have Microtransactions at Launch

But Naughty Dog stresses that no “gameplay items” will be purchasable with microtransactions.

“Microtransaction” is a kind of dirty word in the gaming community these days, and unfortunately it looks like Naughty Dog’s upcoming PS4 exclusive Uncharted 4 won’t be immune. Speaking at Paris Games Week, lead multiplayer designer Robert Cogburn said that the multiplayer segment of the game would have microtransactions right from the get go, but that “gameplay items” would only be purchasable with the in-game currency.

“Microtransactions will be available at launch, but we’ll have no gameplay items that will be gated through microtransactions,” he told GameSpot. He added that striking the right balance, between grinding for items and incentivising real-money acquisitions, will be determined after Naughty Dog looks at the data from the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta.

Additionally, for all you 60-FPS-or-bust purists, Cogburn confirmed that the multiplayer portion of the game would indeed run at 60 FPS, with the notable downside of only having a 900p resolution. In contrast, the game’s singleplayer campaign will run at 1080p/30 FPS.

Lastly, he said that Uncharted 4 will “most likely be Naughty Dog’s last game in the series,” but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard such a claim…
