A destructive squad and destructible environments are two of the features setting the latest iteration apart from its predecessors.
Battlefield: Bad Company, in development by DICE Stockholm for the PS3 and Xbox 360, was recently previewed by Gamespot.
The staff member was not shown the title’s multiplayer component but rather some of the single-player storyline – a first for the franchise.
A la Gears of War, the protagonist will always be accompanied by a squad of soldiers who cannot really die and can’t be given much in the way of orders.
The setting is an impartial fictitious country invaded by a small group of renegade U.S. soldiers armed with heavy weaponry and acidic humor.
Most notable in terms of gameplay was the highly destructible environment, complete with walls and trees and doors easily torn apart by explosive fire.
Assuming the multiplayer mode benefits from the same feature, the pace and tactics of a Battlefield match could change significantly.
Bad Company is scheduled for release sometime in 2008.
