Shadow and Bone Season 2 Announced at Netflix

While we recently learned that Jupiter’s Legacy will not be returning for a second season, Netflix does still have a bit of a hit on its hands. The streamer announced today that Shadow and Bone, its popular adaptation of the Grishaverse novels, is receiving a season 2. The cast made the announcement via their cell phones during the Geeked Week fan event Netflix is hosting.

It seems that nearly everyone is returning as Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Ben Barnes (General Kirigan), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik), and Calahan Skogman (Matthias Helvar) are all set to reprise their roles and show up in the teaser. Netflix is teasing more cast announcements later, possibly bringing a bit more star power to the series now that it’s a big hit.

Shadow and Bone season 2 is happening because the first season delivered plenty of buzz and positive reviews for the streamer, but Netflix has now also released some data on exactly how well it did. More than 55 million “member households” watched the series in its first 28 days, and the show made Netflix’s coveted Top 10 list in 93 countries while hitting number one in 79 of them, including Australia, Brazil, Germany, Russia, Spain, South Africa, and the U.S. If Netflix is sharing viewership numbers, you know the news is good.

“I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly ten years now, so I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going,” said Grishaverse author and executive producer Leigh Bardugo. “There are so many places we’ve barely gotten to visit and I can’t wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints, soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes, and privateers who make this world so much fun to explore. It’s going to be real magic to see our brilliant, talented cast expand.”

We don’t know too much about Shadow and Bone season 2, but Netflix has confirmed that it will run for eight one-hour episodes. No release date has been announced.
