Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King Has an Enticing World & Wonky Combat – Review in 3 Minutes

Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King is an action adventure game from Redlock Studio. In a broken and abandoned world, you take control of an Astyr warrior who’s tasked with seeking out the God King that created you and all of existence. He’s gone missing, and in his place beings called Demiurges have taken over the many lands and steered them into ruin.

The narrative is cryptic, item descriptions are vague, and NPCs won’t offer much clarity. Instead, you’ll uncover often-hidden totems that detail chunks of lore and hint at a utopian society that might have flown too close to the sun with its technological advances, or philosophers starting to poke at the holes in their religion. These bits of information were intriguing, but I found it difficult to piece a story together or relate much of it to what I was doing moment to moment.

Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King has a world that’s genuinely fun to traverse, but its combat could use refinement and its refusal to direct the player may turn away those who want to get lost in a world but also want a way back out. The game is out now for $24.99 on Steam with a current 15% off discount.
