Venom 2 Trailer Brings a Lot of Carnage

The newest trailer for Venom 2, the intentionally cheesy-named Venom: Let There Be Carnage, has landed, and it firmly shows that Sony is going for the same blend of comedy, camp, and weirdness that made the first film surprisingly and shockingly work. The trailer provides our best look yet at Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady in full-blown Carnage mode and plenty of Eddie Brock bickering with Venom.

There’s obviously a lot going on in this trailer, including a bit of tentacle-in-the-mouth action, but the main takeaway is that this is going to be just as cheesy as the original to the point of Eddie having a double date thing with Anne (Michelle Williams) and her new fiance. The CGI looks just as awkwardly crummy as in the first as well, and it’s really driving hope that Sony can strike magic twice and make a second film that’s so bad it’s good.

In the film, Eddie Brock is still living with Venom as the anti-hero struggles to not be evil but still fulfill his desire to be evil. That’s when he gets the chance to interview serial killer Cletus Kaasady, who eventually gets a taste of Eddie’s blood and turns into the supervillain Carnage. It looks like from there on out it’s pretty much just Harrelson acting like a crazy person, Venom/Eddie arguing with each other, and Carnage wreaking, well, carnage. No one was asking for much more, right?

There’s no hint yet of any connections to the other villains in the cinematic universe that Sony is building out, unlike Morbius, which already revealed one of its surprise cameos. Of course, that film has been delayed until 2022 now, meaning it’s coming out after Venom: Let There Be Carnage instead of before. We haven’t heard much about the movie since it was delayed, but Sony is probably trying to just push Venom now.

Venom: Let There be Carnage will drop on September 24, 2021.
