According to MCV‘s “reliable trade sources”, Warner Bros may be the one to save Mortal Kombat firm Midway.
Midway seems to be in an air-juggle at the moment, with reports of the Mortal Kombat team leaving, shady insider deals and the identity of mystery man Mark Thomas; but this latest rumor may be the best news yet.
Warner Bros (and the Warner sister, Dot) appear to be very interested in acquiring Midway, not only because of the Mortal Kombat license, but also its vast back catalog including Stranglehold, Gauntlet, Joust and Galaga.
Midway is looking to get $30 million from the deal, but if that target isn’t reached, there’s chance that it may sell off studios independently.
According to the source, “Warner is pretty confident that they will get Midway – which will be an immediate boost to their portfolio. The deal isn’t done yet. Midway is still open to offers from other potential buyers – but Warner looks to be favorite to wrap it up. They look ready to put the money on the table.”
Now, given that Warner Bros is the mogul behind the LEGO series, could we soon be seeing Lego Mortal Kombat? BLOCKALITY!
