No internet and porn for 90 days

Alright Escapists. In light of some recent brain studies about internet addiction and a couple of videos I've seen on the negative effects of porn, I've decided to try and cut myself off from these two "vices". Personally, I've noticed myself falling into extremely addictive patterns that are starting to negatively affect my quality of life.

Now, obviously avoiding the internet entirely would be damn near impossible (especially considering the nature of my job), but I'm going to try and only have one tab open at a time and keep browsing time down to one hour per day. While not an avid consumer of pornographic material, I'm going to try and avoid looking at internet porn as well.

I make this thread for three reasons. One, to possibly have some form of accountability for all this as well as a way to catalog my progress and any positive changes to my psyche.

Secondly, Perhaps if anyone else would like to join me in my noble quest, they would be interested in having others hold them accountable.

lastly, to discuss this idea. Whether or not you think it's stupid or if you'd like to share any personal experience with addiction.

Goodluck man. While porn isn't something I care about, the internet would be hard to drop. After all I love this place and so many cool things happen here. It's almost as fun as gaming to me nowadays.

Have stronger willpower than I do and you will prevail!

I think it would be more appropriate to wish him peace in the real life.

OT: Personally I wouldn't do it. I like my Internet too much. Too easy to get on it anyway, lot of my school work is on my computer, details can be found online so... yeah.

What is this real life you speak of?

I assume disconnecting yourself from the net is like being unplugged from the matrix, death.

It isn't? Well, that certainly explains a lot of things..

Also, I'm not sadistic to myself enough to avoid porn for long. Internet boobs are part of my daily "how I keep sane" mental breakfast, after all. At least, until I get my hands on some real, tangible one-

..

"No Internet and no porn make axlryder something something..."

"Go crazy?"

"Don't mind if I do!"

Anyway, hopefully you are able to cut down on the time, especially if you know that it's affecting your life in a negative way.

At least you can still access the internet with that bare mininum.

When my parent wanted to switch internet provider I foolishly cancel the current sevice at that time myself (how I suppose to know you weren't suppose to do that if you still want instant internet as soon you switch provider) since I didn't know the whole MAC thing when you want to switch providers.

Needless to say I had no internet for a month. Consider that I own no new games at that time, no live tv broadcast in my room and little social life over here (my friend lived far away), I pretty much suffer one hell of a boredom (no internet and no live tv make Scarim a dull boy...). I pretty sure I suffer a cold turkey sort of treatment as I gotten ill a few days afterward (stomach related problems before you asked).

Overall I think you're insane for doing it for 90 days and I barely made it for 30 days. Regardless I can admire what you're trying to do and may you hold out better than I did. (I take it you have better plans for activities without it like hanging out with mates or something?)

Wait you can still masterbate right? If so , just make some porn in your head . If not ... God help you .

OT: nope i will never try it . Not brave ( read: crazy) enough .

Jesus, all I use the internet for is Facebook, here and porn.

I can't take on this challenge because I need the internet for my job. And it would be stab-me-in-the-face boring without it. I can do without porn for 90 days. I've already done that challenge. I could up the ante and quit masturbation as well. If I have sex as much as I masturbate, I'm going to be a very, very busy person.

Good luck man, the porn gods will guard your soul while you partake on your pilgrimage

I can handle no porn.. but no internet... go away :D i love my internet! :D

Pff, there is a difference between a noble quest and a suicide mission! Thusly, I do not want to join you in your efforts.

...Perhaps you can survive, though...and if you do, we will crown you king of...uh. Well, maybe Nopornland? Or Nointernettia.

Both of these places sound quite terrible though.

I don't care if I'm addicted so long as I can get my fix without problems.
It's the same reason it's okay to be addicted to coffee.

One tab and no porn? I like my internet like that.

I enjoy seeing naked ladies as much as next guy (unless that next guy isn't into naked ladies of course), but it always amuses me when I hear people need to give up porn because they have some sort of problem/addiction.

As for no internet, I need it both for productive things as well as for unproductive things, so I couldn't do without even if I wanted/needed to.

I've heard about no porn for a week but this......this is MADNESS. May the gods of the internetz waatch over you brave foolish foolish warrior.

Limited internet and no porn.... pure fallacy i tell you. Unless you have a sneaky selection of "gentlemans magazines" so to speak, Wink wink nudge nudge.

No porn is hard (Unless you have a girlfriend/wife) but not impossible.

Almost no internet is a whole other story though.
Good luck on your crusade, brave man.

Jesus, all I use the internet for is Facebook, here and porn.

Is there anything else? I mean, really.

Good luck to you, I have tried as much in the past.

These days I dont really spend much time on the internet anyway. Got rid of my fb account and did some work on all of my accounts on various sites (That I could remember signing up for and/or login details for) to make them anon and... yeah.

I internet to post here, talk to my family, pay taxes and do research. Oh, sometimes I head to reddit/r/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu/ or similar. But that is just about all I do with the internet.

As for the porn? Meh. Tis hard to give up. But once you do, well, you will have less of those moments of crushing guilt and the like. And you will save on tissues.

I dont think I could survive without multiple tabs though. I mean, right now... I have 7 open. And thats cause I shut a bunch as I slowly wind down for sleeping (Its quater to three). 5 Escapist Tabs, 1 Splitreason, 1 reddit.

Plus doing any research for College whilst being restricted to one tab? Madness! Madness I tell you!

EDIT:

Thing on addiction.

Good to nip it in the bud. I fucked up a large part of my life due to a genuine computer gaming addiction (As an offshoot of depression, more of an escapism thing but... Yeah, whatever). Better to just get it all under your control and continue under your own terms though (Hence why I can still game).

There are worse things to be addicted to than the internet though (For arguments sake lets call it an addiction). Like Ketamin. Or Nicotine. As I said earlier, I wish you the best of luck with your endevour. Cold Turkey is usually the best option (Worked for me with the gaming. And the ketamine.) but with regards to the internet, that is just about impossible.

As the summer is coming up, try and find a week or two to yourself without obligations and just keep the internet offline. Best way to stop doing something is to make it impossible to do it. To get off the gaming I made a second account on my laptop with no access to anything that was installed (Bar MS office and the internet) and made a friend change all the admin passwords so I simply COULD NOT GAME for about 2 months. To get off the special K I moved back in with my parents (Who happen to live in a country that has an incredibly hardline on drugs. As in, a dude got life in prison for having poppy seeds on his jacket when he came into the airport) for 6 months.

Once you are clear you will not look back. Rather annoying tbh as I do not enjoy gaming as much as I used to.

Double Edit:

xshadowscreamx:
i not long got the internet, i don't no how i lived without it

Where are you from?

Meh, only 90 days? A few years ago I lived at my dad's house for 4 months with no internet connection.

So yeah, been there done that. It was alright, I guess.

Well there's bitching about stuff. I do that quite a bit on the internet.

Well, at least you still have that girl you want to go out with not to be single! You will be Fine...

Too forward...

I guess I could replace internet time with videos games...maybe

I recommend you find an Asari to keep you company then.

They can be quite the distractions.

Stay strong, brother. But it won't be that difficult. You got it.

I don't watch porn, but getting of the internet for 90 days would be tough. I mean, I could do it. No problem. I have tons of other things to do (And things I need to stop putting off...), so I think it'd be beneficial for me.

??? i am unaware of these negative effects of which you speak, almost everything I've read/heard about masturbation either said it was a positive effect or that it makes you go to hell (catholic priest logic, sex with a 10 year old is fine but me masturbating is wrong) and from my own experience masturbation is a good thing (I'm pretty sure that 99% of men agree with me on this one)

same goes for the internet, true in excess it is bad but to cut down to 1 hour a day? surely that is overkill, the internet has many great benefits and while doing it in excess is harmful, the same goes for everything from smoking to exercise and I really dont understand your reasons for quitting.

I'm not challenging, flaming or hating you, im mostly just curious as to why the hell you would do this and it seams like a very bad idea to me

I think as far as I could go would be only using MSN and Wikipedia. Three months is a long time to be out of contact with my best friends, and I need stuff to read and basic update with current events.

Define porn.

Edit: I'm doing a rather mini version of this in regards to the porn: No masturbation for a week. 4th day and it's been getting harder and easier at the same time. It's just that it stopped being a pleasure action and started being a daily routine for the longest while.

I have struggled with very similar addictions and if you are seriously going through with this enthusiastically look forward to the results.

I have a job for the summer for a month and a half and I'll be without internet - I did the same last year and it was bloody tough (I had to make a mission of mercy to GAME in order to amuse myself) but I really don't know how I'll manage it this year since my internet addiction has expanded to new, scary proportions.

I salute you sir. (Good night and) Good luck.
