Santorum: Satan is destroying America Pages PREV 1 2 3 NEXT
Talking about Satan reminds me of a good joke about him from Australian comedian Jim Jefferies.
Not only is it funny on a basic level but it also makes you think. He has a point, everything we "know" about the Devil is from the a single view point, one that has an obvious conflict with him. To add on that, the source we get our information from has been misleading in the past, with unfulfilled prophecies, bad scientific information etc. Frothy says that it is Satan that is destroying America, but what has he actually done. Satan has not said a peep. We don't even know if he agrees with sins. For all we know he could be against a lot of the stuff that is called a sin. Also on a related note another joke from JJ regarding the concept of Hell.

Every single week I come on here to look at the threads thinking "What have American polictions done this week to destroy faith in them?" Seriously, if these guys become successful then countries like Iran are not going to be the crazy religous goverments that everybody worries about.
Which is a bit embarassing really. "Hey, how can I make Santorum look bad? Is there anything he stands for that could maybe seem a bit dodgy or...nah, homophobia! And tasteless humour! Perfect!"
A Santorum nomination would be the greatest thing to happen to the US. It would guarantee a second term for Obama. It would represent the entire Republican party collectively saying, "Yeah, I know we've been braying that your Presidency is literally about to destroy the country within minutes, but we've really got nothing, so go ahead and take another 4 years while we sort our shit out."
Is anyone surprise that a person that compares homosexuality to bestiality and pedophilia is a religious nut?
Actually, the primary definition of the term "Santorum" dates back to like, '06, when he wasn't so much in the public eye, but still a complete and utter nutbag.
No no, it's a valid thing to point out; he's saying that Satan is more sucessful in the modern era than he was in the first century or two, whereas historical America's worst acts were in that first century or two. So basically slavery, wiping out native american cultures, the witch hunts, the Macarthy era (so same thing as the last one really), women being second-class citizens, all of that weren't anything the Devil could brag about, but what's happening today is so much worse than any of that. It's showing he doesn't have a grasp of history.
I believed Britain was getting very bad, virtually reintroducing slavery and all that, then I see our neighbours across the pond are in a similar state. Please ease my worries and tell me this guy will never get in! I am genuinely concerned for the future though, nobody seems to have learned from the quite recent past and the march towards the extreme-right continues.
(Facepalm) Stupid politician is stupid. Sorry, it's just... whatever happened to "separation of church and state" anyway? I hope to God he doesn't win the next election, otherwise, I'd probably leave...
You know what the weird part is? I looked at Santorum's record, and while I don't think he will get the nomination or want him to, and while I don't think he could be Obama in a general...I can't find any solid reason why he couldn't do both, and that scares me a little. Going "oh but he is crazy" isnt good enough. As conservative talk radio is happy to point out, they said Reagan was crazy too.
Considering how openly and severely biased rightwingwatch.org is, I would like to see this quote from a source that isn't out to bash anything conservative in any way it can. Just saying.
In my experience, Americans are some of the most pleasant people I've met. They're generally outgoing, charming, polite and intelligent. You would think there would be no shortage of good fitting people to run the country. So why do you guys keep electing such positively retarded people? To paraphrase Jeremy Clarkson:
Pointing out that a candidate for President of the United States of America is either woefully ignorant of American history or is deliberately whitewashing one of the evils it was founded on and the cause of a bloody civil war hardly constitutes 'obsessing'. If I'd picked the near-genocide of the Native Americans as a Work of Satan That Santorum's Ignoring, would that have been 'obsessing', too? I mean, it hasn't been government policy to exterminate them in years, we should just get over it and never mention it again.
It gets even funnier - the guy who started it is Dan Savage, the writer of the sex advice column "Savage Love", who's openly gay. As I'm sure you can imagine, he doesn't care much for Rick.
If you'd bothered looking at the article, you'd have noticed that they have a YouTube video of these mouth-words issuing forth from The Frothy One his own self. I suppose Santorum has a liberal bias against himself, too? :D
There's a couple of reasons. First off, our Republican Party has been engaged in a massive, multigenerational neurolinguistic programming experiment, and it's been a resounding success for them. They control all the narratives in the US. ALL OF THEM. They've yelled "Librul Biased Media!" so often that our corporate media are terrified to ever call them on their bullshit for any reason, which means they can say ANYTHING, and their fans will believe it. They've spent a LOT of time and effort getting people to focus their Two-Minute Hate on Libruls, Muslims, Lazy Unions, Lazy Government Wasters, and Lazy Poor People while ignoring the fact their company's CEO is starting another round of layoffs. Also, a sizeable chunk of the populace is really heavy-duty 'religious'. These days, that mostly has nothing to do with all the hippie bullshit about feeding the hungry or bringing peace to the world, it's about hating homos and loving fetuses. These people will vote for ANY goober who can appeal to their painstakingly-nurtured fears. (See point the first.) What's more, our electoral system is SEVERELY crocked in favor of whichever candidate can get the most Also, about half of our populace are of below-average intelligence. I know that's a statistics joke, but American culture has a virulent streak of anti-intellectualism, and that plus our educational-entertainment complex has resulted in a lot of people who are not only ignorant, but actively hostile to any attempt to make them understand anything they don't already know. (See point the first, again.) And on top of all that, humans ARE still pack apes. We seem to have a strong innate desire to follow whichever alpha-male can scream the loudest and throw their shit the farthest, even if their socio-economic policies are lacking.
No no Satan isn't destroying the United States...
I'm convinced. This guy is a comedian. This is all just an elaborate joke on the public. I refuse to believe this guy is a real candidate for the Presidency. I fucking refuse!
Wow. This is just pathetic. I have to wonder what all those Fundamentalist Christians of the past who fought against slavery, struggled to end established churches, worked to bring Social Security into being would make of their namesakes today who whinge and moan and complain from atop the social pile? A hundred years ago, they called big business the devil and condemned America's empire as that of the Beast where the poor went hungry and the elderly were abandoned to starve while the soul-sold elites took everything for themselves. He's absolutely right about Satan destroying America and Christians losing their values.
I know I'm supposed to be a Pagan for the week, but Santorum is a disgrace to the Catholic Church in my opinion. Also, insulting the vast majority of Protestant Americans by saying they're pawns of Satan? Yeah, that's close to political suicide.
I was under the impression that the right wing religious fundamentalists have been messing up the US. Look at the type of people who are in the political cross eye over there. Reminds me of a loony bin at times. Santorum, Perry, O'Donnell, Palin and so on. And Bush legacy was to make sure America came pre screwed.
Well, in that respect Santorum is probably right. I really want this whole Santorum wave to keep going and have a Obama vs Santorum contest in the fall. For one thing, I think Obama will utterly annihilate Santorum, and secondly I want to see I want to see how many voters in the US are right wing religious extremists and how many just hate the idea of a black president but are too scared to come right out and say it. On a more serious note, I think that if Santorum somehow does end up in the White House next year, then the first amendment will effectively be over. To hold elected office of that level with that kind of religious fanaticism makes the nation look more like Iran than Canada.
I dunno. There's the obvious "be careful what you wish for" thing, for one. And, it gives him and his viewpoints legitimacy. If you support him to be defeated by Obama, you sorta are still giving him your support.
Bush was a moderate compared with the people you mentioned (well maybe not Perry, Perry is whatever he thinks is best for Perry to be politically). But no religion is alive and well in the United States as it is in most of the "New World". Fundamentalism not so much but the fundies are a loud bunch. The only candidate I see how really has any chance of fixing America's problems is Romney, he is the only one who doesnt utterly repulse one side or the other (Obama, Santorum, Gingrich and Paul are too divisive and too partisan).
The Daily Beast has a list of the Top 10 Nuttiest Things Rick Santorum Has Said http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/02/20/10-outrageous-things-rick-santorum-has-said.html My favorite is comparing the Massachusetts ruling on Gay Marriage to be as hurtful to the US as 9/11. And no one in the GOP bats an eye. If Joe Biden so much as said 9/11, he would be torn to shreds, and hung from the Jackson, MS court house. "In a February 2004 article in The Morning Call, an Allentown, Pa., newspaper, Santorum (cited in the article as "the Senate's No. 3 GOP leader") said gay marriage "is an issue just like 9/11. We didn't decide we wanted to fight the war on terrorism because we wanted to. It was brought to us. And if not now, when? When the supreme courts in all the other states have succumbed to the Massachusetts version of the law?" He keeps gets better all the time.

When the supreme courts in all the other states have succumbed to the Massachusetts version of the law?" Um he didnt say it was as hurtful as 9/11, he said that like 9/11 it was the start of a fight picked by others. It was not a battle that was chosen by those who were attacked. In that sense, yes I would agree with him though I wish he had not used 9/11 as a comparison. He is a politician, he should know if he does that some idiot is going to go out saying "Oh he said gay marriage is as bad as 9/11" when thats not at all what he said.
Still, if any democrat or even a moderate republican tried mentioning 9/11 like that, they'd be publicly crucified. Yet no one says a word?
No Republicans were roundly criticized when Democrats accused them of trying to use 9/11 for political benefit (they werent, they were just more willing to bring it up than the Democrats were). Honestly I think the reason nobody really criticized Santorum much is because in 2004 most people had never heard of Santorum outside of Pennsylvania. This is the first time I ever heard of this quote myself.
Really? This is a guy who thought he had celestial approval for invading Iraq. Moderate? I think not. No wonder the secular America is speaking up. They have to.
Um what? Bush didnt invade Iraq because God told him to or whatever. Your insane if you honestly think that. Fundamentalist? Ha! You really should read Bush's book. Perry is more a fundamentalist than Bush is. Your view of the situation in America is laughable. And by the way I said Bush was moderate compared with the other people that were mentioned, all in all Bush was a Conservative but he was to the left of most of the people running right now except Romney.
Your right, he's terrorising people by stealing bins :3

Classy, Now Obama has to make another trip...
Yes, because you have a clear understanding of History yourself...

I don't really like Santorum much as a candidate so why do you insist on forcing me to defend him by making illegitimate attacks on him? On France: Technically he is right but you don't hold "he we liberated France" for the same reason you cant have the French going "hey we helped you in the 18th Century gain your independence" (not really the same thing but same general idea). Yeah it was stupid of Santorum to say that but I really don't care. Whoever the nominee or President is, they are going to say stupid stuff every now and then. I am more interested in what they do. On Crusades: I disagree with Santorum but he is probably making reference to the fact that it was the Muslims who occupied Jerusalem. Still that doesn't change the fact that the Crusdaes were essentially concocted by the Papacy as a way to get the European princes spending their time killing non-Christians than killing each other (didnt work out too well). Santorum is wrong but his stance is at least grounded in facts...a very selective reading of them while ignoring ones that are inconvenient but he didnt just dream it up. As for Obama being a snob, I actually agree with that one. I think many Americans feel that way about Obama and his ilk. He is an elitist and is very bad at hiding that.
And you should know that in US politics you do not stand much of a chance unless you subscribe to some form of faith, preferable Christianity. And I do not read books written by morons. I was not aware you thought Bush as such a great president. Because he clearly wasn't.

This is the shit they have been lobbying years and years to have said in public and be assured that the Evengelicals WILL vote for this insane gobshite however America (I pray... :s ) won't vote for him... America isn't insane... I hope.
Saved to photobucket :D
Thank you for sharing that.
Much worse. Its a vulgar word for an after product of something when two men "make love".
Without giving too much away, there is a hint AlotFirst :s
