dingrats: "Just Loot It"

I got ten seconds into this video before passing out. I dont think my brain is capable of handling all of that stupid.

I dunno if I would go so far as 'great.' Granted it's not the video's fault so much as the songwriter's, but I got a lukewarm kind of feel from it. Which, granted, is eighty times better than the dingrats thing.

I'm an ultima online fan, and i never really accepted wow. for me wow doesn't exist. it's just an interjection, nothing more. When i read "loot", i immediately thought of good old jones, the uo looter (http://looter.4t.com/), and his incredibly hilarious episodes. So maybe i was not quite prepared for what I was about to see. I stopped at the 34th second, where a... "thing" shows up naked. It's still too soon to judge the creator(s) of this movie. give him/them a chance.

but for now... strike one!

PS: also i don't know what machinima is, but if you're talking about movies made with computer gaming characters, then watch those gmod movies. they're so nonsensical that they make me rofl

herodotus:
15 seconds and I felt I was watching Amateur Hour on U-Tube all over again. I think I'll watch videos of front-end loading washing machines instead. Sorry guys, that was hideous.

They make those? O.o I'd watch that.

That wasn't good. It wasn't well-made or edited. It wasn't intelligent, and it wasn't funny.
More to the point, it wasn't Zero Punctuation - just glad this isn't going to be a regular feature. There's not much hope for this series unless they hire some people with good vocals and better video-editing skills and concepts.

There are other people in my house right now, I was actually embarrassed to be listening to this from the second the guy started singing. Honestly, that was terrible. Granted I only watched it for 15 seconds, but World of Warcraft videos are WAYYYY overdone. Originality, please. Thanks.

I watched the first 10 and last 10 seconds of the vid. I'm going the assume the middle was just more parody fill ins.

That was interesting to watch, ill admit. I expected Yahtzee would take a break and thats cool he is only human after all. Stop being asses about it.

Long time lurker, first time poster.
Anyways, I guess you really just have to know of Nyhm or at least have watched his past videos to enjoy his work. Granted there are alot of WoW machinema. Thing is, have YOU personally watched them all. If not, why group them all together? There are a few diamonds in the rough out there... And Nyhm has a creative mind in parody'ing songs into WoW vids. Hell, I liked his music vids even before I started playing WoW (only about 2 weeks strong now lol).

All I'm saying is don't generalize. This guy has potential. And don't be hatin' cuz theres no ZP this week :P. They're just trying to expand your horizons :)

I vomited through my nose. made it to 50 seconds before turning it off and running around the house screaming. Ive waited all week in anticipation and i get screwed over,, the only thing that i have to brighten up my week is to have a good Zero Punctuation... its not fair . God has betrayed me in every aspect of my life,, now this one WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

AAAAAAAARRGGGGHGHH goodbye.... (takes own life)

Holy hell that sucked.

I agree that the visuals weren't bad. But everything else was horrendous. Kill it with fire.

It's fair that Yahtzee takes a break, and it's even fair to use that break to promote something on your other website. But that thing is just garbage, and you should destroy it before it ruins any respectability this or the other site has (although I didn't know that the other site existed, so maybe there's not much to lose, I didn't know this site existed either until Yahtzee, but at least it has some interesting articles. I'm not going to go to the other one if it's going to associate itself with that).

Note: never call something that you are affiliated with hilarious. It's obvious that you are lying and turns people off, because if it really were funny you wouldn't have to tell us so.

It was cleaver, but I didn't like it. I hate WoW so I thought that was the reason but everyone else seems to share the same opinion.

Allthough i could tell you to do it yourself, i might get flamed for that as well. But people do need to understand that practice makes perfect and practice for such a thing on a short-timed basis is very hard. But i guess no one cares if no other musician gets to be better at what he/she does...

Oh yea, i forgot to mention that people just say it sucks but not giving reasons as t owhy. Maybe that's what tastes are.

Anyway, the noob ballad was pretty funny and well done, too. Shows people not to have too much pride.

hickwarrior:
people just say it sucks but not giving reasons as t owhy.

Well, here are some reasons why I didn't like it.

Firstly, it's just not very funny - too many in-jokes, not enough genuine humour. I think if I lived and breathed WoW at least 10 hours a day I'd perhaps find it more amusing but it's so self-referential that it's impenetrable for an outsider. Maybe this is how it's meant to be, but it makes it alienating to watch. Also, the thing has WAY too much use of internet memes - memes are the absolute antithesis of humour. Memes are where funny jokes go to die, they are the jokes that have been told so often that they simply have no ability to raise a laugh left in them. They have no place in any kind of parody. Furthermore, the rapping is a bit on the sloppy side. Subtitles shouldn't be necessary in a musical parody, but in this case they are, because the guy is quite hard to understand in places.

On the positive side, it seems like it took a lot of time and effort to put that video together, so I admire it for that, if nothing else. The editing is really quite good. And the line "caps lock means they're talking loud" raised a giggle, that was the only really good laugh in there. But that's not enough to save it, in my opinion. Whoever did it has some formidable video-creation talent, I think he just needs someone else to write his comedy material.

y r all of u saying this is bad i though it was great. Likely none of u play WoW or u spam chuck norris jokes all day in ur cap. and ballad of the noob was stupid ive no clue y u all like it.

Zera:

thank god someone can understand y ur all being stupid about this uy yahtzee

It is probably true that people are being a little more scathing than they would otherwise be because they're missing Yahtzee. Which is absolutely to be expected - after all, Yahtzee's ability to use humour effectively is made all the more obvious when placed up alongside the fairly flaccid, meme-laden 'insider' jokes of "just loot it". I guess if I was very easily pleased in terms of what made me laugh on a daily basis, "just loot it" would constitute a few good minutes of entertainment, maybe I'm just not taking the right drugs, or watching the right sitcoms...

That was absolute crap...

I'm talking about Ballad of a Noob. It was a boring song, boring video, boring everything.

Just loot It was great though. Why are you all so stuck up?

I know I am a new member but I read these comments and I thought I just had to post seeing all of your stupid responses. You must have really really really high standards if you think that Just Loot It was as bad as you say, standards that are impossible to satisfy.

Ah i see. Then i just don't have enough experiencewith comedy of any sort, but maybe i actually did played mumorpgers, which plays a part in the comedy. But otherwise, i do agree that that kind of jokes shouldn't be around, if you don't know anything about it. Maybe that's why there was a stupid epidemic?

That's pretty much it (and I know I used a meme in my post, but I am lazy and uncreative and it expressed the hatred I felt). Memes are not funny (occasionally they can be, under rare circumstances), but people use them thinking that just using them will get a laugh because, after all, it's FUNNY, RITE? I GET THE REFERENCE LOL. HAHAHA THAT WAS SOO RANDOM! I might find it funnier if I played WoW, but saying let's go to the The Gate of Whatever and expecting people to laugh because they know about The Gate of Whatever is terrible humor. Oh, and the music was shit.

seifersan: I think spamming Chuck Norris "jokes" is a prerequisite to enjoying this sort of thing.

Actually, I don't have really high standards. I am very easily amused. But memes and "random" humor are just fucking STUPID.

Hey I thought it was at least chuckle worthy.

Edit: However I am a colossal WoW nerd so that may have something to do with that.

You probably won't get it if you don't play WoW so the easiest thing to do is just shut up. "Everybody to the Zul'Aman door" isn't supposed to be funny. Zul'Aman is the newest dungeon in WoW and it's a statement not something supposed to be "FUNNY, RITE? I GET THE REFERENCE LOL. HAHAHA THAT WAS SOO RANDOM!".

Can you make one better? No, you probably can't so stop bad mouthing it when you have no idea what it's about because you don't play WoW and you're also a dead religious leader...

I have loads of game-based theories, but I'll just spare you guys from all that, and say to calm down. Everyone's entitled to an opinion and insulting the opposite side just makes you all look worse.

The problem here is that people at the escapist are used to watch yahtzee, rather than something about an mmo. This site isn't mmo-based, unlike warcry. Exchanging a humorous game review for a compilation of mmo inside jokes makes few of us happy.

Remember. This is the internet! What's worth pure gold somewhere is worth crap somewhere else.

But then again, the internet is also like the special Olympics...

I wish Nyhm wasnt back. That fucking sucked so hard.

Can you make one better? No, you probably can't so stop bad mouthing it when you have no idea what it's about

This is among the least convincing arguments ever. We are perfectly capable of evaluating something's worth even if we do not work in that craft. If you actually believe this line of reasoning, you have no right to ever complain about any computer malfunction ever again for the rest of your life. Thanks.

And it's not that it's just not Zero Punctuation. Most of the people here that I've seen are of the stance that it's perfectly acceptable for Mr. Croshaw to take a week off, because it's m.f-ing Xmas. He can have a week off. He can have two, as far as I'm concerned, or however many as long as what he DOES put out is of good quality and continues to be entertaining. But then again, I read Absurd Notions, which updates maybe quarterly. Your mileage may vary.

The problem here is that the video is bad.

I will agree with the others that visually it is acceptable, though it gets repetitive at points. This is, to an extent, necessary with a Warcraft-based video sequence; there are only so many ways you can make a character look like they're talking, and these get ridiculous amounts of use. If you see enough Warcraft videos or actually play World Of, then you stop seeing this as characters talking and start seeing them as /laugh or /talk or whatever the commands are. Which really takes away from the presentation, rather than adding to it as such visuals should. This issue is mostly with the choice to use Warcraft as the medium, rather than some other more robust polygon animation business.

Next comes the issue of the 'flow,' which I will continue to beat the dead horse in saying that it's not good at all. If you need time to figure out what you're going to say, write it down first. If you can't get it out fast enough on the mic, then you have audio editing tools--use them to take out the blank spaces. The monotone doesn't help either, and slightly more advanced audio techniques (overlays, strategic silences, etc) would have made a huge difference. I won't criticize the choice of song to parody, because really, that's artistic liberty, and it CAN be done well with that track. It just wasn't this time.

And now the content. For what it was talking about, I guess it was all right. There was a variety of 'supporting points' as it were, different things that were rapped about. But the thing is that it's still talking about what is easily one of the more asinine behaviors in the game, and thus less likely to be a laughing matter generally speaking. Bad choice.

Okay, we've brought some serious, substantive arguments to the table. Apologists, your turn.

Reported for writing a book.

I love how its generaly agreed that this really isn't good, at all, then one guy comes in, says everyones opinions are wrong, and people show up and agree with him.

What the heck?

This was terrible. No ones being "stuck up". A few people are being asses about it, but saying everyone who says this is bad is only upset about the lack of yahtzee, now that generalizing. It's VERY understandably Yahtzee took a break, I expected it.

It's my opinion that this movie was terrible. It was not funny, it was not clever, and it was not enjoyable in anyway. No, im not just generalizing because its a WoW video (which ARE overdone, by the way). I honestly and legitimately find this video to be horrendous. Go ahead and try again, no one has said "WTF WAS THAT, DON'T EVER TRY TO MAKE A VIDEO AGAIN". Here's my suggestion, though: Try being original. WoW is overdone.

My opinion about this relates very little to ZP being here this week, as ZP is not the only thing I read escapist for (notice my complete lack of ZP posts?).

The video is just bad. "oh go make one yourself". Why? I have neither the time or the skills required to do such a thing, and my end product would end up being a video people commented on as being shit, bad, etc. Sound familiar?

If it's simply about the creator increasing his skills with writing, video animation and what not then making it a rather publicised debut such as this is probably not the smartest way to go about it.

Ok, first I never ever said that you are all complaining because Yahtzee has took a break. Read my posts. If you are not saying that about me then sorry, my mistakes, but it does sound that way.

Second, this is completely different to a computer malfunction. And, if I had a computer malfunction I would read up on it, whereas I doubt any of you who don't play Warcraft read up on it? And if you say that that is completely different, then congratulations on contradicting yourself.

Third, yes, Yahtzee is good at what he does, but really I'm sure that anyone with enough and the right humour could do what he does. I'm not saying that making Zero Punctuation videos are easy, I'm just saying that he isn't really limited to a certain game's graphics and such. I know that you said that he was limited to the ways you can get someone to look like they are talking in WoW but that does make it VERY hard for it not to get kind of repetitive. So, basically I'm saying that Yahtzee is good at what he does and Nyhm is good at what he does, because he is limited and that's why you are complaining really, he can't do much better.

Fourth, the lyrics are also hard to do because he is limited to a song's tune and so he can't really sing exactly what he wants to because of the chosen song's restrictions.

Fifth, why am I also writing a book?

I'm an avid WoW player and I was thoroughly unimpressed, and will certainly not be seeking this series out on Warcry, if that was the intention. I even watched the whole thing despite my instincts not to, on the grounds that (a) it has to get funny eventually, right?, and (b) I'm a masochist.

The best way to sum up my critique is that it tries way too hard. The more you have to try to make something funny, the less funny it becomes.

Kirethidae:
You probably won't get it if you don't play WoW so the easiest thing to do is just shut up.

You seem pretty bent out of shape about the whole thing. Need a hug?

I would argue to the above statement that user feedback guides the content on a site. When I see something that I believe is so far below the general standard of site content, I'm going to make my voice heard. This ensures that those running the site know that the response to the video was not positive.

To "just shut up", as you suggested, would tacitly imply that the video was acceptable and that I felt no need to comment (after all, I did click on it, and in web analytics terms, clicking = popularity). That would be irresponsible. Worse still, that could give the site owners reason to believe that I might want to see a string of these videos, which be about as far from the truth as possible.

No, I'm fine thanks, I don't really need a hug.

I actually agree with your point there and cannot argue against that really.

When I said "just shut up" I didn't really mean it like for you not to comment with your opinion and all, I really meant that you should stop complaining about how not funny some of the stuff is when clearly you wouldn't get it. I was wrong in saying "shut up" and should have phrased it better.

Hope that clears somethings up for you, give yourself a hug.

SatansBestBuddy:
I watched about 38 seconds of that before I headed for the comments section in disgust, so I'm not gonna judge whether this was any good or not, but I'm willing to bet that it's more in the "Not" section.

Nice, I lasted litle longer but came here with the same attitude and find this as the first post /cheer
