Valve Confirms DotA 2 for 2011

This is absolutely dispicable. Valve taking a free mod for a different game, hiring its creators and making a superior sequel to sell. We want to see more of Valve's original franchises like Team Fortress...

oh wait...

[This entire post was made in sarcasm]

Dammit Gabe! We don't want this! We want Episode 3! Stop dicking around, make the new fucking graphics engine, and release the fucking thing already! Oh, and if it's any motivation, DUKE FUCKING NUKEM FOREVER IS RELEASING BEFORE HALF-LIFE 2 EPISODE 3/HALF-LIFE 3!!! What the fuck man?!

On a different, non-ranting note, this might has some potential. Tho, i'm still pissed that there is no Episode 3. And for that, Gabe Newell will forever burn in gamer hell.

I'm hoping Valve can at least find a way to retain the original content of the map but still make the interface better and make it accessible for newcomers.

There goes my bet on Dead or Alive: Gabe Newell edition.

I'd buy that.
I'd buy the hell out of that.

OT: I tried the original Warcraft III mod at a friends, and it was good fun. It'll be interesting to see how Valve handle's an RTS.

Dead or Alive: Extreme Valve Volleyball.

They'll still keep those jiggle physics, then...

Enjoy the mental image.

I see.

Orange Box 2.

Portal 2
DotA 2
Manchester United 0

Oh God. My friends and I play this every time we go to a net Cafe.

The fact that the map has been remade by VALVE (possibly the greatest gaming company to have ever existed) can only mean wondrous and spectacular things.

Guess I'm gonna be the first to preorder it, then...

Will we can another version of the song?

imnotparanoid:
No episode 3 then, never even heard of DOTA until valve bought it or whatever.

Same here.
The first time I heard about it was when that guy named Icefrog went to Valve.
This might be the first Valve game I'll never buy because I'm not interested in it at all. The only thing I want to hear from Valve now is ep3 and a bit Portal2.

I could've sworn there was some other game they were supposed to be working on... nah, must've gotten something mixed up, that's all...

So, I guess the only Valve game we're getting this millennium is Portal 2. Oh well, as long as they keep the free shit coming :D

Looking forward to more fancy hats (that I will never get, but still appreciate the possibility of getting, because they are free).

I, for one, am glad to see Valve trying something new with a different IP, and not just another first-person shooter (Portal still counts, even if you only shoot portals).
Of course, I'm still waiting for Ep3, though it will be about 3 years next month since Ep2... at this point they need to announce HL3 or something to make up for the wait.

Tom Goldman:
Overall, it looks like Valve is putting together another huge game that has its origins in the modding community.

Okay, I guess I'll have to be the one that asks the question. What do they mean by "another" ? What other game have they made that started as a mod?

I refuse to play Portal until Valve confirms they won't pull a DNF manouvre on Portal 3. I have no idea if the story stretches over more Portal games, but I'll play it safe this time.

I played WC3 a lot in my day and I never really saw what the big attraction to DOTA was.

the only games I've ever heard of are ones there are TV commercials for and everything else can go to hell... derp.

sniff all i want is episode three! wwhhhaaaaa

The thougt of them puting off episode 3 again makes me very sad.

Tom Goldman:
retain "functional aspects to the art that are pretty significant to the players," Valve's DotA 2 project lead told Game Informer. The aim is to make every hero's visual style and animations unique enough to they can be identified immediately.

A design choice which will undoubtedly work fantastically

UNTIL YOU RUIN IT 2 AND A HALF YEARS LATER WITH ALL SORTS OF POINTLESS JUNK AND MEANINGLESS SHITTY VISUAL "COSMETICS" CONTRARY TO YOUR ENTIRE GAME DESIGN PHILOSOPHY JUST FOR THE SAKE OF ADDING SHIT. LIKE, SAY, HATS.

...Yeah, I still love Valve, but I just wish they'd stop ruining one of my favorite games for absolutely no reason but to appeal to the mouth-breathing crowd...

Day of defeat source and i think even counter strike source.

One of the most played multiplayer games in the world.
Counterstrike

I think I'll just leave these here....

OT: I would have rather had Episode 3. We'll get it eventually though, I mean if Duke is coming then Freeman will eventually catch up.

Ahh..! This'll keep me entertained for a while until Episode 3. :P

Im unconvinced by this, I mean I already play league of legends and its free, I have to wonder what dota 2 (so weird to make a sequel to a mod) could offer that lol couldnt

Is it bad that the only reason I knew what DotA was before seeing this is that annoying Basshunter song?

^ Nope, not at all, the only things that will annoy you are the people that just cry all game/blame/and shittalk nonstop and theres plenty of them lol

Well for one, dota is not "free", you have to buy WC3 to play it....

Its pretty fun and should be interesting. Its all about teamwork bro and icefrog is da man

P.S. LoL/HoN blow...

Valve is leaving their comfort zone with this. Let's see how they do.

Dota 2 = league of legends, go play it, valve might make a better dota game, but I'd rather get episode 3 first.

Dota 2 = HoN
LoL = ...well, lol. Something else.

While I'm in the crowd that would much prefer even a screenshot of Episode 3 to this, it does have my interest.

Team Fortress, Portal...

I'm looking forward to being able to write sourcemod server mods for this one.

Koganesaga:
Gotta say, hate this idea. DotA was like the Halo of the WC3 universe, it drew in all the loud mouthed 10 year olds that think they're gods gift to the fucking world because they managed a combo item in 15 min or some stupid shit like that. Don't get me wrong, the game itself was kinda fun, but for what you had to put up with, it just wasn't worth it (again, much like Halo).

Now, go back in time to Counter Strike. If anything, the culture of loud mouthed 10-year-olds started before Halo did, and on a Valve platformed game. CS was *also* just a mod.

I think the real shocker here is that blizzard didn't do this first.

Sounds like fun

I do hope they use the Heroes of Newerth buy screen though. HoN's buy screen is so much simpler than DotA's.

I wonder if S2 will let Icefrog put a few of their heroes in DotA 2 though. I do want Electrician and/or Gauntlet.

gmaverick019:
well hopefully its fun and a bit noob friendly, the first one was god awfulllll at that and the community was full of super troll dickheads, but i might give it a try depending on cash flow when it comes out.

Same here. I could never get int o DotA in WC3 because if you didn't have the newest version of it, no one would let you play.

How can Valve do this, did they buy the rights from Blizzard or something?
