Wii U Title Bombing Bastards Gets a Name Change on PS4

In a surprising move, a game that made it’s way to the Nintendo eShop with title still intact will be assuming a new name on the PlayStation 4 – at Sony’s request.

Bombing Bastards from Sanuk Games released for the Wii U on the Nintendo eShop, name and all, in July 2014. Bombing Bastards was then released on Steam, under the same name, in December 2014. However, the game’s developers announced today that they have agreed to a change in name for the PlayStation 4 port. “The name was changed to Bombing Busters on request from Sony,” a press release from Sanuk Games reads.

This isn’t the first time Sony has taken issue with the B-word. Stealth Bastard originally released in November 2011 as a free download for Microsoft Windows. The expanded version, Stealth Bastard Deluxe, was made available on Steam, OS X, Linux, and Android before making its way to Sony’s PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in 2013.

At the time Stealth Bastard was announced for PS3 and the Vita, lead developer Sam Robinson wrote a post on PlayStation’s blog, inviting fans to pitch new name ideas for the port. “We want to rename Stealth B**tard to something less profane… it’s just too rude! We therefore want you to have a go at naming the PlayStation versions – if you think you’ve got the perfect profanity-free solution to our naughty title, we want to hear from you!” The game was renamed Stealth Inc. – A Clone in the Dark for PlayStation ports. Every reference to the original title on PlayStation’s website was edited to Stealth B**tard.

Bombing Busters will land in the American PlayStation Store for PS4 on September 15th.
