Star Trek: Strange New Worlds x Lower Decks Crossover Revealed

At the Star Trek panel at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2022, the last big reveal was that a Star Trek: Strange New Worlds x Star Trek: Lower Decks crossover is happening. What does that mean? It means Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid will appear in live action as Lower Decks‘ Ensign Beckett Mariner and Ensign Brad Boimler in an episode of Strange New Worlds season 2, and there will also be animated portions. Additionally, Jonathan Frakes (William T. Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation) will direct the episode.

Further details on the Strange New Worlds x Lower Decks crossover will likely seep out in the coming months, though season 2 of SNW is not coming until 2023. The first season recently finished airing, with some people loving it and some people mortified at its slavish devotion to The Original Series.

SDCC 2022 offered plenty of other Star Trek news today. For instance, the Lower Decks season 3 trailer has arrived, revealing that the crew will take a trip to Deep Space 9. Furthermore, Paramount+ offered the first video teaser for Star Trek: Picard season 3, showing off returning cast, especially the aging returning cast of TNG. These are ostensibly healthy times for the Trek brand, though when a new movie will come to theaters is a little up in the air right now.
