LittleBigPlanet Dev Squashes Image Importing Rumors

Contrary to previous reports, Sony’s creation-based platformer, LittleBigPlanet, will not be receiving an update to allow for the direct importing of images into the game.

Rumors have been circulating throughout the week as to a statement supposedly made by Media Molecule co-founder, Alex Evans, at the Nottingham gaming festival, GameCity. So goes the rumor, Mr. Evans had confirmed that LittleBigPlanet would be receiving a pre-holiday update to allow for the proper importing of user-generated images. Currently, the only way to import pictures into a level is to utilize the PlayStation Eye camera.

The community manager for LittleBigPlanet, better known as “Sam_Protagonist,” debunked the rumor on the official PlayStation forums, stating that while, “Image importing is very much technically viable […] there are currently no plans to introduce it for a variety of reasons.”

It doesn’t take a Sackboy scientist to figure out exactly what those reasons are, as the duo Penny-Arcade have properly illustrated. While is this is something of a blow to fans of LittleBigPlanet‘s creation mode, Media Molecule does have a major content update in the works, as the promised online create mode has yet to be delivered.
