In news unlikely to surprise industry observers, the NPD Group released data indicated that videogame publisher Activision dominated the market in 2007.
According to the firm’s statistics, Activision was the No. 1 console and hand-held publisher in the U.S.
Compared to the first 11 months of last year, it increased its market share 7.8 percent, attaining a record 16.8 percent.
“We are well positioned to continue our leadership position through the remainder of the year and are on track to delivering another record year of revenue growth and the most profitable year in our history,” said company Chairman Robert Kotick.
Kotick cited two main hits, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, as major components of success.
The company’s profile and stock market standing have also grown in light of its recent $19 billion merger with Vivendi Games.
