Aliens: Colonial Marines Trailer Makes First Contact

Steam users are now able to pre-load the game in advance of its February 12 release.

In an effort to make up for that cringe-worthy, cheesy trailer released a couple of weeks ago, SEGA have given us an admittedly much better written “Contact” trailer. The video really captures the “Aliens” feel from the movies, showing us both the suspenseful horror of the stalking Xenomorphs and the all-out badassery of the Colonial Marine Corps.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will serve as a sequel to James Cameron’s 1986 science fiction masterpiece. 20th century Fox has confirmed that the game’s story, which centers around Corporal Christopher Winter as his search-and-rescue team looks for signs of Ellen Ripley and Dwayne Hicks, is an official part of the Aliens cannon.

The single player campaign will consist of what Gearbox describes as “gauntlet runs,” where the player must run from point A to point B while fighting off attackers, and “last stands,” where the player must defend a key area from an onslaught of aliens. Players will earn experience points as they complete missions, which can be used to purchase character customizations and weapon upgrades that will carry over to the multiplayer modes.

The star feature of the story mode will be the drop-in/drop-out co-op for up to four players. Think Borderlands or Diablo III. Competitive multiplayer will consist of 6v6 team deathmatch, as well as a 4v4 objective mode called Escape, where the marine team must reach an evac point while the alien team must hunt and stop them.

The game will be released across Xbox 360, PC and PS3 on February 12, with the Wii U release to follow shortly afterwards in March. PC users can now pre-load the game on Steam, and be ready to hunt bugs the minute the game becomes available. The file size is a little over five gigs.
