To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure if this qualifies as good news or not. On the one hand, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs launches on September 10. But on the other hand, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs launches on September 10. You can see the problem.
You can see the problem, right? Amnesia: The Dark Descent was a monstrously awful experience, certainly not “fun” by any sane definition, and when it was finally over I was just glad to have made it to the end without actually dying. But I couldn’t stop playing. I’d think to myself, “Oh no, please, I don’t want to look down this hall, I want to stay here huddled up in this corner forever,” but eventually I’d slowly creep over and crane my head around trying to see what was behind my monitor and there’d be nothing there, which was even worse than something – And on and on we’d go.
And now the follow-up – not a direct sequel, but the same sort of horrific shenanigans, this time cooked up by Dear Esther studio The Chinese Room – is just about here, and I can’t help thinking that I really don’t need this crap. I don’t need to inflict this kind of psychological torture on myself. I have plenty of games that are fun – Fun! – and I really, really do not need, or want, to suffer through this one.
But I will. Oh, I will.
