Zack Snyder. So hot right now. And Netflix has his next film, Army of the Dead. The director’s return to the genre that made him famous dropped a new trailer showing off the most we’ve seen of the film yet, including the fact that the film’s zombies aren’t just of the fast kind (a version of zombie that Snyder helped usher in), but also the smart kind. Check out Netflix’s official Army of the Dead trailer below.
In typical Snyder fashion, the Army of the Dead trailer kicks off with a popular slow song (Kenny Rogers this time), though this one picks up by the end as the trailer explodes into nonstop slow-motion pans of people shooting bullets and zombies… making out? The movie follows a group of criminals who are hired to steal a fortune from a safe in Las Vegas. The difference between this film and other Vegas heist movies, however, is that Vegas is infested with zombies. As the trailer shows, these zombies have evolved a bit during their time locked off from the rest of the world. It seems they not only have formed into an organized power structure but maybe have emotions too?
The film stars Dave Bautista, Matthias Schweighöfer, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Tig Notaro, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada and Garret Dillahunt, as well as Raúl Castillo, Huma Quereshi, Samantha Win, Richard Cetrone, and Michael Cassidy, along with a host of zombie extras milling about.
The film is setting up a new franchise for Netflix, with Snyder at the helm. The streamer has already greenlit a spin-off animated prequel series, and we’ll probably hear about a sequel a bit after we hear about the film being the most-watched movie on the streamer ever (hypothetically speaking). Hopefully, this franchise fairs a bit better than the last one led by Snyder did. Army of the Dead releases on Netflix on May 21.
