Videogames have provided inspiration for numerous spin-offs including movies, books and music, but none are quite so unique as The Dragon Quest Ballet.
Performed by the Star Dancers Ballet of Japan, the Dragon Quest ballet actually debuted all the way back in 1995, and has been performed annually ever since. In 2002 the group released a DVD of the performance, and the whole thing can also be seen online via YouTube, in 13 parts.
I don’t actually know anything about the Dragon Quest games so how closely this performance actually follows the plot is beyond me; I don’t know anything about opera, either, so whether or not this is any good isn’t for me to say. Give it a watch and let me know.
