Project Rainier: Journalist Jeff Grubb says an open-world Black Panther game is in early development, published by EA and developed by the ex-Monolith VP Kevin Stephens

Open-World Black Panther Game Is Reportedly in Development

This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

We are two days removed from the release of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer. It was a great look at the upcoming film, striking a somber tone due to the loss of Chadwick Boseman. With the avalanche of Marvel movie news, many gamers were left wondering if any of the upcoming projects would lend themselves to video games. Besides Insomniac’s Wolverine and Spider-Man 2, there isn’t much on the horizon. However, on his Giant Bomb podcast (via Nibel), journalist Jeff Grubb claimed that will not be the case much longer. According to Grubb, an open-world single-player Black Panther game is in development.

Grubb dropped a few additional titles on the game on the podcast. Internally, the open-world Black Panther game is referred to as “Project Rainier,” and it will be developed by a new studio headlined by ex-Monolith VP Kevin Stephens at EA. The player will take on the mantle of the new Black Panther. The adventure is early in development, so do not expect an announcement soon.

Of course, until an official announcement is made, take all of this news with a grain of salt. Grubb has a good track record, though, so I’m leaning towards this game being legit. An open-world title perhaps set entirely in Wakanda? Sign me up!
