Blood Spilled, Eyes Lost in New Mortal Kombat: Legacy Episode

Slowly but surely, the series is starting to feel like Mortal Kombat.

The second episode of Warner’s Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series is out, and if you were worried that it was going to take forever for the characters to start looking like they do in the game, don’t worry, as at least one face is going to get a heck of a lot more familiar.

Where the first episode was actually on the tame side – although it had some nice foreshadowing thrown in for fans – this episode is a little bit more what you’d expect from a Mortal Kombat movie with a positively eye-popping scene about four minutes in. Director Kevin Tancharoen doesn’t seem to want to go overboard with the gore just yet though, so it’s really just a splash.

Tancharoen is capable of making a very atmospheric Mortal Kombat movie – he proved that with Rebirth – and the series seems to be heading in the right direction. The second episode seems a marked improvement over the first, and hopefully, with a few more Mortal Kombat elements added to the pot – and there are very clearly more on the way – the series will shake that “generic action movie” feel that’s been hanging around it.
