The relaunch of Dark Horse Presents has new stories from Peter Hogan, Brendan McCarthy, Damon Gentry and more.
When it comes to Dark Horse Comics, there arguably isn’t a book with more of a legacy than Dark Horse Presents. Debuting back in 1986, the anthology series remained a prominent part of the company’s repertoire until the year 2000, after which it was the subject of several other shorter-lived revivals. Tomorrow, in turn, will see the launch of the franchise’s latest incarnation with a new book featuring stories from comic book icons such as Frank Miller, Geof Darrow, Brendan McCarthy and more.
Their stories will be spread across 56 pages of illustrated goodness, and the Escapist has been give an exclusive first peek at some of them. As you’ll see, we got a peek at Brendan McCarthy’s black and white (and depressing looking) Dream Gang. This was followed up by David Mack’s Kabuki which doesn’t make much sense in the space one page we were given, but definitely leaves an impression.
Following Kabuki were two pages from part one of Resident Alien, a story being written Peter Hogan and illustrated by Steve Parkhouse. While, again, two pages is on a sliver of the whole story, it would seem to focus on an alien preparing a casino heist. Damon Gentry’s Sabertooth Swordsman meanwhile looks as though it will be a colorful, cartoony story focusing, as the title suggests, on an anthropomorphic sabertooth tiger. Finally, Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray’s Wrestling With Demons (part one) looks as though it will be focusing in on a father-daughter road trip that we can only imagine takes a turn for the worst.
Based on what we’ve seen, the new Dark Horse Presents looks as though it will be an interesting anthology and a worthy new beginning to the franchise’s legacy. Take a look at the preview pages yourself however, and let us know what you think. Will you be adding this to your comic stack when it hits shelves tomorrow or has this look at its contents left you less than impressed?
