Colony Studios Founded

Colony Studios, a veteran-laden development team, has joined the massively-multiplayer development fray with the intent of bringing its own unique IP to life in a next-gen MMOG.

The Colony Studios team draws from a deep well of experience in the field, with members having contributed significantly to some of the most popular MMOGs available today, including World of Warcraft, EVE Online, Lord of the Rings Online, Everquest and Ultima Online. “Our collective contributions to a significant numbers of hit MMOs give us a strong advantage,” said Colony Studios CEO Michael Wallis. “Most dev teams – including Colony’s – have gone through the process of learning what doesn’t work in game development, but our team members have also been intimately involved with creating what does work in several successful MMOs and that combination will serve us well.”

The company has announced that it is currently working on a space-based sci-fi MMOG, which the company says “won’t be a World of Warcraft clone with a new IP skin.” Wallis said the game will “offer farm more than a linear storyline, will provide a ton of content and backstory, but the player will consistently influence the content.”

“The bottom line is, we’ve launched MMOs before, and our experience lets us anticipate bumps in the road and steer clear of them. The fact that we’ve been through it before means things are much less likely to fall through the cracks.”

Colony Studios as-yet-unnamed MMOG is currently scheduled to be released in late 2009.
