Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer in 2021, CD Projekt Red

Cyberpunk 2077’s previously mentioned multiplayer mode will not arrive until long after the game’s release. Cyberpunk 2077 saw a delay earlier today that pushed its launch date from April to Sept. 17, 2020, and shortly after, developer CD Projekt Red held a press conference to discuss the game’s progress. During this conference, the studio confirmed that fans should not expect to see the multiplayer addition until after 2021. You can hear the discussion for yourself by listening to the conference at 6:30.

CD Projekt Red member of the board and SVP of business development Michał Nowakowski elaborated on the reasoning for the multiplayer component’s release coming so long after the base game launches: “To be honest, in terms of multiplayer, one thing we need to make clear is that the AAA release we’re working on in parallel with [Cyberpunk 2077] is Cyberpunk multiplayer, so that’s the first thing to say… given the expected release date of Cyberpunk 2077  in September, and speaking of a series of events we expect to occur after that date, 2021 appears unlikely as a release date for the Cyberpunk multiplayer.”

Little is known about what CD Projekt Red could do with multiplayer in the Cyberpunk universe, which might be for the best considering how long fans will have to wait to be able to play the new mode.

Cyberpunk 2077 wasn’t the only game to see a delay this week. Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers and Final Fantasy VII Remake both saw delays too.
