Well, at least he has experience with animation.
The Detective Pikachu movie took another step toward production, as it has found its director. Rob Letterman, who most recently directed the Goosebumps movie, has been tapped by Legendary, the studio producing the movie.
Letterman’s resume is filled with some animation, which should bode well for a live-action/animated hybrid. Pikachu should look pretty good, at least. Apart from the CGI-filled Goosebumps, Letterman was also a co-director on Monsters vs. Aliens and Shark Tale, as well as the sole director on Gulliver’s Travels.
As far as I’m concerned, that’s a pretty poor track record. There isn’t really a good movie among the batch, and a couple of them are pretty terrible. Should this inspire confidence in the Detective Pikachu movie? Because I’m not feeling anything close to that.
Detective Pikachu (title pending) doesn’t currently have a release date, but mid-to-late 2018 wouldn’t be an unreasonable assumption.
