Dishonored Website Goes Live With Hot New Screens

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

Dishonored has a brand new website and a pile of sexy screenshots that have me giddy with excitement.

I’ve had an interest in Dishonored since Bethesda first announced it in July, mainly because it’s from Arkane, creators of the awesome-but-under-appreciated Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. But now, thanks to the newly-launched Dishonored website and the delicious screens it’s packing, I’ve moved on to full-out drooling.

Five of these screens are brand new, a few debuted at Gamescom over the weekend and others are from Quakecon earlier this month, but they all have one thing in common: they look awesome. The influence of Half-Life 2 veteran Viktor Antonov is obvious but what really turns my crank is the neo-Victorian look of the whole thing. The promise of “sandbox assassination,” with supernatural powers and a “play your way” design in a decaying, “retro-future” world, has me pretty wound up too.

It’s a lofty goal, but Arkane’s previous games both did a good job of providing alternative approaches to most situations. The system tended to break down in the later stages of the game – sooner or later, you gotta hit somebody – but if the studio can stretch it out for the duration and make Dunwall feel like a living, breathing city, this could turn out to be a very impressive game. Dishonored won’t be out until sometime next year which means there’s still plenty of time for disappointment, but at this stage I sure do like what I see.
