Electronic Arts Named To HRC’s “Best Places To Work 2014” List

The Human Rights Campaign has placed Electronic Arts on its list of the best places to work in 2014.

Electronic Arts may be the worst company in America as chosen by the internet, but the Human Rights Campaign, a civil rights organization working on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the U.S., says it’s also one of the best places to work in 2014. EA scored 100 percent on the HRC’s Corporate Equality Index, the 12th such survey, which rates workplaces on LGBT equality.

The survey notes that EA prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, offers “partner health/medical insurance” and “parity across other ‘soft’ benefits for partners,” plus transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage and other related resources. The company also “positively engages the external LGBT community” and, perhaps even more important, hasn’t recently been embroiled in any “large-scale official or public anti-LGBT blemish.”

EA’s noteworthy pro-LGBT activities in 2013 included being an official sponsor of the first Gaymer X convention and raising more than $10.5 million with the Humble Origin Bundle, all of which went to charities including the Human Rights Campaign. It’s kind of sad that providing equal access to health insurance and benefits is worthy of special recognition but such is the world we live in, and while it may not seem like much compared to, say, fixing Battlefield 4, I still think it’s worth a little recognition and praise.
