BioShock for the PlayStation 3 has been confirmed for release later this year, featuring brand-new content and other enhancements.

Take-Two has confirmed the upcoming release of the game, first revealed last week, promising “exciting new content” in the gripping tale of survival in the underwater dystopia of Rapture. Players will use both conventional weapons and powerful genetic enhancements as they navigate the crumbling underwater city, caught up in a power struggle and a drama that slowly unfolds over the course of the game. Originally released in August 2007 for the Xbox 360 and PC, BioShock was a tremendous critical and commercial success and won numerous awards from sites including IGN and GameSpy as well as the Game Developers Choice Awards and the Spike TV Video Game Awards, where it was selected as Best Game.

“Since BioShock for the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows won countless 2007 Game of the Year awards, we are excited to see the impact of this stellar title for the PlayStation 3 system when it debuts this fall,” said 2K Games President Christoph Hartmann. “Over the coming months we look forward to revealing the new features and content that will make this a must-have game for its new audience, as well as for those who enjoyed it on the other platforms.”

BioShock for the PlayStation 3 is scheduled for release in October 2008.
