Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Trailer 2 Targets Nostalgia with More Hogwarts

This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

Professor Albus Dumbledore has secrets, but you can find some of them out in the new, second trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. What obviously isn’t a secret is that The Secrets of Dumbledore is going back to Hogwarts, and Warner Bros. wants you to know that so that you’ll come and see it. This new trailer and the first one drive the point home pretty hard.

In the movie, Jude Law takes on the role of a much younger Albus Dumbledore, who becomes involved with the Fantastic Beasts gang as they try to combat the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald, now played by Mads Mikkelsen after Johnny Depp was removed from the film. The entire regular cast is returning including Eddie Redmayne, Callum Turner, Victoria Yeates, William Nadylam, Jessica Williams, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, and Ezra Miller. The second Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore trailer is crammed full of action and plenty of callbacks to the original Harry Potter films as the crew travels to Hogwarts.

That’s entirely intentional. The franchise needs a bit of a kick in the pants after the second Fantastic Beasts film failed to really move the needle with audiences and, even worse, fans. Add to that the trouble with J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and recasting Depp and you’ve got a lot of damage control to do. By bringing back characters from the original film series and setting the film in Hogwarts, the studio is clearly hoping to pull on nostalgia strings to get audiences back in seats. Hopefully, director David Yates is also making a good film too.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secretes of Dumbledore will release on April 15, 2022.
