Former Midway Games Staff Kickstarting Documentary of Legendary Studio

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Crowdfunded film seeks to tell story of Chicago-based developer behind the some of the biggest arcade games of the 90’s.

During the arcade resurgence of the 1990’s, few companies were as successful as Midway Games. With a string of tremendously popular titles, including Terminator 2: Judgment Day, NBA Jam, and Mortal Kombat, Midway cemented itself as one of the defining developers of the era. Now, a new documentary seeks to tell the stories behind the making of these games (and more) from the people who made them.

Insert Coin: Inside Midway’s ’90s Revolution is a feature-length documentary in development by former Midway artist (and current Robomodo president) Joshua Tsui. Tsui is seeking $75,000 to complete the film with a Kickstarter campaign.

As seen in the trailer accompanying the campaign, Tsui has already lined up several heavy-hitters from the company, including Mortal Kombat co-creator John Tobias, NBA Jam designer Mark Turmell, and motion capture performer Kerri Hoskins-Branson.

Funds from the Kickstarter campaign will be used to hire production staff and secure additional interviews to complete the film. If funded, the film is planned for a digital release and a special edition Blu-Ray. As of this writing, the campaign has collected just shy of $40,000 with 20 days remaining.
