Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel release date December 2023 Sony Pictures

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Sequel Is Coming to Theaters in 2023

This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

Many people either love Ghostbusters: Afterlife for the Stranger Ghosts that it is, or they recoil at how it reflects many of the worst aspects of nostalgia in franchise filmmaking. So you will potentially love or hate that a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife has a release date set for December 20, 2023. The movie had been previously announced, along with Venom 3, back in April, but now we know exactly when the haunting will begin. The story will apparently return to New York City and a firehouse setting, but no further details are floating out there yet.

Elsewhere in the Ghostbusters world, Ghostbusters VR is headed to Meta Quest 2 and PlayStation VR2. It will be a VR adventure set in San Francisco that you can play with upward of three friends in co-op. The adoption rate of VR seems to be continuing to tick up, so hopefully it won’t be another decade before it becomes truly mainstream.

To date, the Ghostbusters franchise has grossed more than $938 million worldwide. The franchise hit a roadblock with the reviled 2016 reboot, but Ghostbusters: Afterlife proved a more lucrative crowd-pleaser, making this 2023 sequel possible. At the least, Afterlife‘s critics would probably agree that it’s still a better movie than Jurassic World Dominion.
