How to Survive a Far Cry 3 Tropical Island Vacation

This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

Lawyers and money won’t help you on Rook Island, but guns are an absolute must.

Sunscreen? Check. Stylish Bermuda shorts? Check. Cooler filled with the local cerveza? Check. Uzi? The answer better be “check,” pal, because the islands of Far Cry 3 may be tropical but they sure ain’t no paradise.

Nobody’s ever going to accuse the Far Cry franchise of excess creativity, but this Far Cry 3 Survival Guide video should look awfully familiar to anyone who’s played the first Far Cry. The Indiana Jones angle is new, but everything else – the driving, the hang-gliding, the crashed Japanese fighter – looks like it was lifted straight out of the original game.

The Vaas situation is interesting, though. The homicidal lunatic behind the Vaas Wahine is the brother of the sexy leader of the only friendly faction on the islands? An unexpected twist indeed!

And let’s be honest: There aren’t many games that do the “driving/shooting/blowing stuff up” thing better than Far Cry. Cut-and-paste though it may be, I’ll be waiting in line on launch day. Hey, I know what I like.

Far Cry 3 comes out on December 4 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
