Jeri Ryan To Play Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat: Rebirth Web Series

The former Borg confirms that she will appear in a 10-episode web series set in the Mortal Kombat universe.

Remember that awesome Mortal Kombat short film that first surfaced last summer? The Escapist reported last month that the director was hired by Warner Brothers to finish the story he began, even if his initial posting of the film on YouTube was a mistake. Kevin Tancharoen stated that he wanted to use as many of the actors from the original film as he could, and we just got confirmation from Jeri Ryan’s Twitter feed that she will be reprising her role as Sonya Blade. Ryan is perhaps best known to us nerds as the liberated Borg Seven of Nine serving aboard the USS Voyager in the eponymous Star Trek series.

“Heading to the farmer’s market with the hubs & my girl. Then this evening I head to Vancouver to shoot Mortal Kombat! (NOW it’s official),” Ryan’s Tweet read.

In case you were wondering how good the web series is going to be, Ryan gave it her seal of approval. “BTW, just finished reading the whole script for Mortal Kombat. Holy crap… I think u might just love it. Get ready…” she wrote after her initial Tweet.

Now we just need Michael Jai White to be cast as Captain Jackson “Jax” Briggs and the Mortal Kombat web series will likely be as awesome as the first 8 minutes.
