dead island 2, koch media

Dead Island 2 hasn’t been in the public eye for quite some time, but that doesn’t mean publisher Koch Media has buried the sequel just yet. Announced back in 2014, Dead Island 2 made a solid first impression in its pumped first teaser trailer. However, besides the occasional update through the years and some short gameplay clips, the game’s status has mostly been kept under wraps since that initial reveal. Now, thanks to a interview with Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz, we know that Dead Island 2 may see the light of day yet. Kundratitz said the following:

Look, Dead Island is a very important brand for us and we’ve got to get it right. It’s just a testimony of our dedication to get it right. It’s a great story to tell everyone that it’s on its third studio, but we like to be judged on the end result and we’re really confident that when it comes out it’s going to be a kick-ass zombie game. We’ll certainly give it all our power.

As Kundratitz said, Dead Island 2 has passed hands several times. Franchise creator Techland kicked off development but eventually moved on so it could focus on the Dying Light series. Then Yager Development took over in 2012 before handing over the game to Sumo Digital in 2016. After a few more years with that studio, THQ Nordic announced that Dambuster Studios would oversee the project’s development going forward.

Dead Island 2 has no release window, but don’t expect to see too many similarities between the first trailer and the end result whenever it arrives.
