The classic adventure game gets a facelift, thanks to Kickstarter.
It was about a year ago that Kickstarter began to change the way that games are funded. Now, some of those first-wave games are coming into reality. After suffering months of delays due to too much money, developers Replay Games decided to finally give Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded the stamp of approval and place it on sale.
Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded is a remake of the classic 1987 adventure game, which itself was a remake of a 1981 text game called Softporn Adventure. For the unfamiliar, the game follows perpetual loser Larry Laffer as he searches for the woman of his dreams. The game was famous for stirring up controversy with its risque (if relatively tame) content. Larry: Reloaded isn’t just prettier than the ancient Sierra Online games, but it’s larger as well. Al Lowe, the original creator, has returned to write new content, expanding the cast, puzzles, and areas of the game.
The original was an adventure game from the days of pixel hunting and obtuse puzzle design. Think Kings Quest, but with more sex jokes. Those interested in the history of the series can check out the entire collection on GoG, including the VGA remakes from the early 90’s.
Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded can be purchased for PC or Mac on Steam, or straight from Replay Games themselves.
