Lollipop Chainsaw Pre-order Outfits Lay on the References

This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

There’s shades of Evil Dead and Mindless Self Indulgence in Lollipop Chainsaw’s pre-order bonuses.

That’s Mindless Self Indulgence the band, as opposed to the general concept. GameStop PowerUp Rewards members who pre-order the game will get to slay zombies in a costume based on the band’s lead singer, James Euringer, also known as Jimmy Urine. Urine is providing backing tracks for the game’s boss battles and is voicing a Mohawk-sporting zombie by the name of Zed.

Regular Gamestop customers who pre-order Lollipop will get a costume based on Ash, of Evil Dead fame, complete with shotgun and superfluous leather straps. This isn’t the first reference to the series in a Grasshopper Manufacture game. Last year’s Shadows of the Damned featured some fairly obvious references to the second film in the classic schlock-horror series.

The other retailers seem to have been stiffed in comparison to Gamestop. Pre-ordering through Amazon will net you a “rockabilly” costume while Best Buy customers will get the “Goth Girl” outfit and golden “Foxy Funk” getup.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of pre-order bonuses, particularly those tied to specific retailers, but I do have a massive, somewhat embarrassing man-crush on Bruce Campbell and his absurdly masculine testostochin. Hmm.

Lollipop Chainsaw is due on PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year.
