Lucas Comes to Super Smash Bros. This Month

Lucas will be joining Super Smash Bros. on June 14.

Last April, in a Super Smash Bros.-focused Nintendo Direct, Nintendo made the surprise announcement of Lucas‘ return in the form of a paid DLC. Now, it has given us a date for the EarthBound character’s release: June 14.

According to the official website, Lucas will sell for the same price as prior DLC character Mewtwo – $3.99 if you just want him on either the 3DS or Wii U, or $4.99 for both systems. Unlike Mewtwo, though, there will be no special promotion to get him for free (gamers who bought both the 3DS and Wii U versions of Smash Bros. got Mewtwo for free).

Lucas’ arrival marks the release of the first DLC character announced post-launch – and certainly sets the precedent for removed favourites such as Snake, Roy, and the Ice Climbers to return. Indeed, some super sleuths over at reddit discovered files for Fire Emblem‘s Roy and Street Fighter‘s Ryu in the latest Smash Bros. patch, suggesting that these will be the next DLC fighters.

Alongside Lucas, several Splatoon-themed outfits for Miis will arrive in the game the same day for $0.75 each. The Japanese Nintendo Twitter also said that a new Miiverse-themed stage would be released for the game next week, though we have no word on a US date.
