A bunch of friends just playing Mario has clocked up $46k for Child’s Play in just over a day.

The Super Mario Marathon has a fairly simple premise: A bunch of gamers, some in fancy dress, sit around playing levels from a selection of Mario games. You pay them to do so. The chosen levels are determined by the amount of money the public has donated, all of which goes directly to the Child’s Play foundation.

At the time of writing, the current total for this year’s marathon is a whopping $46,217.00. That amount was collected in just 1 day, 9 hours and twelve minutes. Last year’s Marathon, the most successful in its history, managed to rack up $110,000 over 110 hours. The one before that raised $82,382.

Prizes are being dished out at random to those who’ve donated, and our own Cory Rydell, the artist for Critical Miss, has donated a poster to the prize pool. You can watch the live stream of the event here and donate here.
