A group of LittleBigPlanet 2 creators have gone outside the scope of games and developed a new operating system instead.
Creators in the LittleBigPlanet 2 beta have been hard at work recreating games like Final Fantasy VII and Marvel vs. Capcom, but PSN users Boss_Mob, SaggySackBoy, tomatenbrei and daFRED94 have proven that LittleBigPlanet‘s creation tools can also be used for business applications. Instead of making a new type of LittleBigPlanet game, they’ve developed a LittleBigPlanet version of Windows.
It opens up with the Windows start-up sound to a desktop setup not unlike what you’d find in Windows XP or Windows 7 (I’m pretty sure there wasn’t an OS between those). The Start menu, Recycle Bin, and even Internet Explorer icons are all there.
Of course, it wouldn’t be LittleBigPlanet if Windows LBP wasn’t more fun than your typical OS, so its creators have injected plenty of it. The OS comes with photos of Sackboys in all sorts of poses, a Windows Media Player with visualizer when listening to music, and a couple of Sackboy sports videos. However, if you want to use IE to do a Google search, you’ll have to attach a keyboard.
The coolest part of Windows LBP isn’t the fact that the important System32 folder is in the recycle bin, but that the Start menu links to an Asteroids-style game that explodes when you die, and another game where you must dodge descending blue squares. They don’t look quite as addictive as Minesweeper or Solitaire though.
Deleting that System32 folder will lead to a Blue Screen of Death, which in Windows LBP is cuter and more acceptable than its real life version. In LittleBigPlanet 2, you can apparently beat Windows, which could be cathartic for those dealing with the Blue Screen of Death more than they’d like.
Thanks for the tip Belladonnah!
