MvC 3 Adds Wrestling Mayor and Space God to its Roster

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

Capcom has confirmed two new fighters for Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and rumors about the rest are starting to look pretty reliable.

MvC 3’s lineup is pretty full, but there are still a few spots left to fill before the game comes out in February. The latest pair to put up their dukes is Marvel’s Phoenix and Capcom’s Haggar, two names we’ve heard before in connection with game.

Haggar is one of the stars of the Final Fight series, and is a former professional wrestler turned politician. Rumors about his inclusion have been floating around for months, after a picture leaked out in October, showing a monkey-masked developer with Haggar in the background. Phoenix, AKA Jean Grey, is a powerful telepath, one of the original members of the X-Men, and the vessel of the Phoenix Force, a god-like being from space. Her appearance in the game was also the subject of rumor after a Twitter poster calling himself Ken Lennox spilled the beans on the rest of the roster.

It’s beginning to look like Lennox’s information is actually quite reliable, as he also described one of Phoenix’s unique abilities, which is turning into the malevolent Dark Phoenix if she is knocked out with her Special Gauge filled up to level five. If that wasn’t enough, a very early review of the game by NowGamer seems to have revealed another of the characters that Lennox mentioned, Street Fighter series villain, Akuma. The review has since been taken down, but a cached version of it remains, and shows Akuma alongside Ryu and X-23, about to fight MODOK, Spider-Man and Wolverine.

Assuming this isn’t some incredibly unlikely coincidence, the rest of MvC 3’s characters should be Darkstalkers’ Hsien-Ko, a Sentinel from the X-Men comics, and Marvel villain Taskmaster, with the planet-eating Galactus as the final boss.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds comes out for Xbox 360 and PS3 on February 15th.
