Lost in translation.

Original: In a now archived Mighty No. 9 countdown livestream, Keiji Inafune joined other members of the Comcept team to chat about the crowdfunded spiritual successor to Mega Man and field some questions. It’s no secret that Mighty No. 9 had a rough development, plagued by multiple delays and increasingly frustrated Kickstarter backers. When the most recent release date was revealed – it’s today, by the way – many braced for another delay. However the game is here, and according to Inafune, “it’s better than nothing.”
“The reality is they put everything into making this game,” Inafune said through a translator, Comcept’s Ben Judd. “They didn’t try to microtransaction it out, they didn’t try to DLC it out for extra money. They put it all in.”
“So, for now, this is what you see and what you get, for the Mighty No. 9 world,” he continued. “But, again, we can hope that if things go well, there’ll be sequels. Because I’ll tell you what, I’m not getting my 2D side-scrolling fill. And at the end of the day, even if it’s not perfect, it’s better than nothing. At least, that’s my opinion.”
Earlier this month, Inafune was already discussing a sequel, saying that says that development on a sequel is “already in our minds,” with the mindset of “we’ll do it even if it doesn’t sell.”
