The Ohio State University is conducting a wide-ranging survey to investigate patterns of motivation and usage by tabletop, digital, and “other” gamers.

Co-sponsored by the Game Manufacturers Association and The Wargamer, the Games Research Project II survey is a follow-up to a similar effort last year that focused on a broad study of hobby game players. Along with continuing analysis of existing data, the project seeks to expand the knowledge and understanding of the world of games and gamers.

Building on the previously-collected data, the survey focuses on the following areas:

What does the average game player like in a game, and why?
What motivates continued game play?
What drives preferences for particular types of games?
Where are games purchased?

Gamers are invited to participate in the survey at www.gamesurvey.org. A link to the official Q&A forums can be found here.
