The 2008 Penny Arcade Expo will be putting independent games in the spotlight by way of the PAX 10, highlighting some of the best independent projects currently in development.
Selected by a panel of 50 industry experts, including Penny Arcade creators Gabe and Tycho, the PAX 10 will feature the top ten independent games submitted for consideration based on gameplay and “fun factor.” Winners will have their creations displayed in the PAX Exhibit Hall, and will also vie for the “Audience Choice Award,” selected by attendees.
According to Penny Arcade’s Robert Khoo, the upcoming event looks set to surpass the attendance record of 37,000 set by the 2007 Penny Arcade Expo, which made it last year’s largest gaming festival in North America. “We’re selling tickets over twice as fast as we did in 2007, which of course is terrifying,” he said. “At this point, attendees expect a great show. That’s something we know how to do.” Registered exhibitors this year include Sony Online Entertainment, Microsoft, THQ, Blizzard, Namco, NCsoft and many others.
Submissions to the PAX 10 contest will be accepted until May 7.
