PlayStation 5 Event Delayed ‘to Allow More Important Voices to Be Heard’

Sony’s PlayStation 5 event has been postponed from its June 4 showcase date. News of the postponement came through the PlayStation Twitter account after riots in support of Black Lives Matter erupted across the world. The company has not provided a rescheduled date, saying that “we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

The showcase was set to focus on PlayStation 5 games this Thursday at 1 p.m. PDT, marking what would have been the first time players received a fleshed out look at Sony’s next-gen games. PlayStation 5 is still set for its holiday 2020 launch.

Riots began in Minneapolis, Minnesota after video surfaced of a police officer kneeling down on the neck of — and eventually killing — a black man named George Floyd. Since footage of Floyd’s mistreatment made its way onto the social media feeds of millions across the U.S., more individuals have taken to the streets in support of Black Lives Matter and to voice their vehement disapproval of police brutality. PlayStation tweeted just earlier today speaking out against oppression of the black community.

Stay tuned for a new PlayStation 5 event date and time.
