Sony has claimed its PlayStation 3 console has surpassed one million units sold in the UK.

Released for that country on March 23, 2007, the PS3 has apparently reached the one million unit milestone more quickly than its predecessor, the PS2, which took 50 weeks to accomplish the feat.

In June of last year, Sony announced one million units moved across Europe as a whole.

The announcement comes on the heels of news that video game publishing giant Electronic Arts anticipates the PS3 will outsell the Xbox 360 this year by a notable margin.

The Xbox 360 took 60 weeks to reach the same milestone in the UK whereas the Wii accomplished the feat in 38 weeks there.
