Harmonix, MTV Games and Electronic Arts have announced the upcoming release of Rock Band for the Nintendo Wii console, set for launch in June.
The Rock Band for Wii Special Edition Bundle will include the game, drum kit, wireless guitar and microphone, and stand-alone instruments will also be available at launch. The package will include 63 songs, including five bonus songs for the Wii release. Currently, the game is only available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 platforms.
Commenting on the release of the hit game on Nintendo’s popular system, Bob Picunko, vice president of electronic games and interactive products at MTV, said, “The Wii’s success among casual and core gamers of all ages makes it an ideal match for the cross-generational appeal of the music featured in Rock Band.”
“The social interaction and addictive nature of the Rock Band experience is a perfect fit for the Wii and will undoubtedly be fun for the entire family,” added Nintendo’s Vice President of Licensing Steve Singer.
Despite technical issues with the game’s controllers, Rock Band became one of the most successful releases of 2007, winning numerous awards from gaming sites and magazines including IGN, GameSpot, Official Xbox Magazine, Ars Technica and GamePro, as well as taking home two awards from the Spike Video Game Awards.
Rock Band for the Wii is rated T (Teen) by the ESRB, and will hit store shelves on June 22. More information is available at the official Rock Band website.
