Samuel L. Jackson has been announced as the host of this year’s Spike TV 2007 Video Game Awards, his third consecutive year at the wheel.
This year’s show will feature presentations and appearances by celebrities including Criss Angel, Tia Carrere, Kurt Angle, Tony Hawk, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Forrest Griffin, Don King, Matt Leinart, Dave Navarro, Steve-O and many others. Video Games Live, a concert series featuring performances of music from top-rated videogames, will also be appearing on the show in its national television debut.
Premiere footage of highly-anticipated upcoming videogame releases will also be shown, from games including Borderlands, Gran Turismo 5, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and TNA iMPACT!, as well as a first look a the new downloadable Halo 3 maps from Microsoft.
Games released between November 26, 2006 and December 1, 2007 are eligible for the competition, with nominations and winners chosen by a group of some of the industry’s most highly-respected experts, including The Escapist’s own Executive Editor, Julianne Greer. Fan voting will still have a place, however, as the winner of the Most Addictive Game category will be selected solely by fans, who can vote at www.vga.spiketv.com.
This year’s Spike TV Video Game Awards is being taped on Friday December 7 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, and will air on Spike at 9:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, December 9.
